Peles Castle & Rasnov Fortress

If Bran is a modest royal residence, Peles is the opposite — an opulent Neo-Renaissance palace built for King Carol I between 1873 and 1914, with carved wood interiors, stained glass, and one of the first fully electrified castles anywhere in Europe. Most visitors who see both find Peles the more impressive of the two.

The castle sits near the town of Sinaia, on the same rail line as Bucharest, roughly 45 to 60 minutes from Brasov by train, then a 15 to 20 minute walk uphill from the station. Adult tickets run in the range of 120 to 150 RON depending on tour scope, closed Mondays and Tuesdays. A photography pass, if you want to shoot inside, is a small separate charge.

Because Sinaia and Bran sit on opposite sides of Brasov, combining both in one day by public transport means real backtracking through the city — most visitors either give each its own day, or take a full-day guided tour from Brasov that handles both in one trip.

A hilltop peasant fortress rather than a royal castle — reconstructed streets, ramparts to walk, and genuinely fewer crowds than Bran, with panoramic Carpathian views to match. It sits on the same road as the Brasov-to-Bran bus route, roughly midway between the two, making it an easy add-on to a Bran day rather than a separate trip.
