Three Days in Salzburg
Day One — The Old Town
Getreidegasse and Mozart's Birthplace, then Residenzplatz and the cathedral, then St. Peter's Cemetery. Take the funicular up to Hohensalzburg Fortress in the late afternoon for sunset views over the rooftops, then dinner at Augustiner Bräustübl.
Day Two — The New Town and Sound of Music
Mirabell Palace and Gardens, then Mozart's Residence. Either join a Sound of Music bus tour or walk the free sites yourself, then spend the afternoon at Hellbrunn Palace watching the trick fountains catch people off guard.
Day Three — Hallstatt
An early train out, a few hours in the village and along the lakefront, the salt mine and Skywalk if you have the appetite for it, and back to Salzburg by early evening.
