Dubrovnik is small enough to walk without help, so the question is not whether to take a tour but which one earns its fee. The prices below are ranges drawn from the booking platforms in September 2026, not quotes — they move with the date, the season and the group size, and every operator lists a "from" price that few people actually pay.
Where a tour can be replaced with a ticket and a map, I have said so.
Old Town walking tour
1.5 to 3 hours · Roughly €20 to €35 per person in a group
Worth it on your first morning, because Dubrovnik is a city whose story — a merchant republic that bought its independence for four hundred years and abolished slavery in 1416 — is invisible in the stones without someone to tell it. Content overlaps heavily with the walls and Game of Thrones tours, so book one of the three, not all of them.

Check carefully whether the €40 walls entrance is included, because most guide-only listings do not include it and the difference is larger than the tour fee. Early-morning and late-afternoon departures exist specifically to avoid the heat and the crowds; take one of those or none.

There are dozens of these and they are much of a muchness. The honest note: filming locations are almost all places you will walk past anyway, and entrance to the walls and Fort Lovrijenac is usually extra. Book it if the show is why you came; skip it if it is not.

The best-value thing on this page. You paddle out beneath the walls, past Lovrijenac, usually stopping at Betina Cave beach, and you see the city from the only angle that explains why it was built this way. Kayaking here is a permitted activity — book with a licensed operator rather than whoever is on the beach.

Worth paying for only if you want all three islands in one day, which the public ferry timetable makes genuinely awkward. If one island will do, take Jadrolinija to Lopud instead and keep the money.

The only realistic way to reach the Dingač and Postup slopes without a rental car, and the long day usually takes in Ston and its walls as well. Confirm how many wineries are included and whether lunch and oysters are extra — they often are.

Both cross a non-Schengen border, and a tour transfers the queue risk from you to the driver. Bring a passport regardless of nationality. Read the day-trips page before booking either, because these are genuinely long days.
